January 31, 2010 Homemade Italian Lasagna
Ingredients
- 3-4 Minced garlic cloves
- 1 cup minced onion or half a large onion
- 1-1 1/2 cups beef broth
- 15oz. tomato sauce
- 14oz. stewed tomatoes
- 6oz. tomato paste
- 1 lb. italian sausage (casings removed)
- pinch of thyme
- pinch of basil
- 2 Tbsp of oregano
- 2 Tbsp of parsley
- salt and pepper to taste
- Lasagna noodles
- Ricotta cheese
- Mozzarella cheese
Directions
Saute onions and garlic in large sauce pan. Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and beef broth. Stir over medium high heat until paste is diluted, add hot water if needed. Stir in spices and let simmer, stirring occasionally, on low heat for 1-2 hrs. In separate pan brown sausage and set aside. Boil noodles till just aldente. Spread small amount of sauce in a 13x9 dish and layer noodles on top. Layer some ricotta cheese on top of noodles and some of the sausage, then cover with another layer of noodles. Repeat layering then cover lasagna with remaining sauce. Cover with grated mozzarella and bake, covered, at 375 F for 20-30 min. or until cheese is melted. Remove cover and continue baking for 5-10 min. at 425 F or until cheese is lightly browned and bubbly. - Created by Bryce
